Traces of everyday experiences over the course of a year, traces of memories, of school days, of deceased friends or family members, or traces of aging on the skin – Japanese-born artist Yoriko Seto incorporates these impressions from the past and present into her artistic work. She draws them with charcoal on paper or in sketchbooks, crumples the drawings, creates objects from them, or transforms them into short animated films. Her exploration of everyday life repeatedly opens up different themes. Seto reflects on her family, life and its end, growing up in Japan and growing older in Germany – including the sometimes contradictory values and ideas.

Yoriko Seto’s (b. 1975, Fukuoka, Japan, lives and works in Bremen) work includes drawing, animation, and artist’s books. In 2024, she completed her master in Fine Arts under Heike Kati Barath at the Hochschule für Künste Bremen. In 2025, she was nominated for the 48th Bremer Förderpreis. Seto most recently presented her work in the exhibitions Twogether – AusGezeichnete ZeichenSetzung aus und auf Papier at the State Representation of Bremen in Brussels and Onigiri at the CIAO exhibition container at Bremen Güterbahnhof. In 2024, her drawings were part of Anonyme Zeichner & Lines Fiction at Kunstraum Kreuzberg/Bethanien.
