jiawen uffline investigates the infrastructure, (counter-) history, materiality, locality, poetics, and politics of technology. In her first institutional solo exhibition, presented as part of the Bremen Studio Grant, jiawen uffline focuses on information, data, and telecommunications cables, which draw their own underground city map without being publicly accessible. The fact that these plans remain strictly confidential and cannot be viewed marks the starting point of jiawen uffline’s inquiry. She examines the far-reaching networks of global technology corporations, which are based n a partly involuntary and unnoticed exchange of data. Through her research and multimedia works, she devises possibilities for connectivity in more autonomous networks beyond exploitative structures. In doing so, she imagines devices and instructions and draws on investigative methods of a counter-history, which relate to her interest in laying her own matrix over the technologies that accompany us in everyday life.
jiawen uffline is a visual artist. In 2025, she completed her master’s degree at the University of the Arts Bremen in the Digital Media class. Her work has most recently been shown at venues including ss space space, TW (2026), Stadtwerkstatt, AT (2026), House of Arts Brno, CZ (2026), Kino Šiška, SI (2026), SPAM New Media Festival Seattle, USA (2025), SomoS Arts Berlin, DE (2025), and the 41st Kasseler Dokfest, DE (2024).
